Information about Kolar:
                               Kolar is popularly called the land of Gold, Milk, Silk, Mangos and Tomatoes
This landlocked district is the Eastern gateway to Karnataka. It is famous for its Kolar gold mines, beautiful hill stations, fortresses and temples. Some areas in Kolar are suitable for adventure sports like trekking, rock climbing and parasailing.

History of Kolar:
                     The history of the Kolar says that usual legends are encountered. These are connected with Avani in the Mulbagal Taluk, which is identified with Avantika kshetra, It is belived that Valmiki, the author of the Ramayana was lived here. Rama took rest on his way back to Ayodhya after the conquest of Lanka.

Location of Kolar in Karnataka:
                       Kolar district is situated in the southern region of the State and also the eastern-most district of the Karnataka State. Kolar district is covered by the districts of Bangalore and Tumkur on the west side and remaining sides by the districts of the nearby states Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Anantapur district comes on the north side, Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh in the east and North Arcot and Dharmapuri Districts of Tamil Nadu on the south.The district headquarters of Kolar town is located sixty five Kms in the north east of Bangalore.
